Positive Self-Esteem

Hello! Welcome to week #9 on Ms. L teaches blog. Since the beginning of the year we have been working towards building a positive learning environment in which all of us feel respected and valued. We have been engaging in circle affirmations at the beginning of each class. During this activity, each student tells one of their classmates what they like about them. I feel like this activity is very good at making every student feel important within the classroom. I think that it would be great if the lessons the students are learning in the classroom were mirrored at home. Here is a link to a list of several ways in which parents can enhance the self-esteem of their children.

Along the left side of the screen are several books that deal with building self-esteem in children. They are fun reads, and I hope you like them as much as I did.

Geometry and Spatial Sense

Hello! Welcome to week 8 in Ms. L's class. Today the focus of my blog is on the math that we will be learning in class in the next few weeks. It is important that you practice what you are learning in class with the useful links that I have provided you with here on the blog.

First, I'd like to explain the specific strand of mathematics that I am going to be concentrating on in the coming classes. According to the Ontario Ministry of Education (2006) Spatial sense is the intuitive awareness of one’s surroundings and the objects in them. Geometry helps us represent and describe objects and their interrelationships in space.A strong sense of spatial relationships and competence in using the concepts and language of geometry also support students’ understanding of number and measurement.

Healthy Living

Hi Everyone!

It is week #4, and this week's focus is living healthy lives. At the beginning of the day we gather on the carpet to work on the calendar, read, and share ideas. But next week, after carpet time, we will have a short activity break during which we will focus on getting you moving and stretching so that you will feel energetic and excited to start the school day. By starting our day off with a little bit of exercise, we will be more alert and able to concentrate so that we are ready to participate in all classroom activities.

Parents: Being active in class is a great start, but it is important that we are all on the same page with regards to helping your children live healthy lives. There are many benefits to living an active life, and the following links will help you find ways to incorporate activity as well as healthy eating into your lives. Play the game with your child and teach them how to select healthy food choices. Have fun with these sites! See you on Monday.

Reading Resource

It's week #3 and things in Ms. L's class are going very well. We are all learning about each other and the appropriate ways of behaving in a classroom. In my opinion, I think you are all doing a great job.

This week we learned that when different letters come together, they make words. Everyone in class is doing such a great job learning to build words from the letters of the alphabet. If we keep practicing these skills, I know that you will be great readers in no time.

Here is a helpful link on which you will be able to practice what we are doing in class. Parents, please direct your child to the website, and ensure they understand what is expected of each game. We have worked with this program in class, so I am confident that your child will know exactly what to do.

First Posting

Welcome to Ms. L's Blog!

I'd like to welcome all of you to my blog. We have just begun a new year, and I'm very excited to learn more about all of you. Our class is full of very smart and intelligent students, who together make an unstoppable team. I feel it is very important that your home life, and family be a part of your educational experience, and this blog is a way for me to connect with you and your parents on a regular basis.

I will be using the blog to help your parents keep up to date on what you are learning in my class, and also directing you to resources and websites that may be useful when you're completing your assignments. I will also be talking about all the ways I see our class growing together in our learning community. I look forward to learning as much from you, as you will learn from me, and I will be sure to tell you all about it in my blog.

Check back here every Monday for the latest posting!
